JEFFREY HERLINGS AND PIRELLI FIM MOTOCROSS MX2 WORLD CHAMPIONS

The Dutch KTM star defends his championship with three rounds to spare providing Pirelli with their 59th Motocross Championship while the Scorpion MX again ‘owns’ MX1 

Loket (Czech Republic), 5 August 2013 ­– Pirelli won its 59th FIM Motocross World Championship thanks to the performance of eighteen year old Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings who closed out the MX2 category with three rounds to run.

The KTM rider guided his factory 250SX-F with Pirelli Scorpion MX MidSoft 32F front and Scorpion MX MidSoft 32 rear to victory and confirmed his second title after winning all fourteen of seventeen rounds in the series so far. In the Czech Republic Herlings was again unstoppable and logged his twelfth double of the year ahead of other Pirelli riders Christophe Charlier, Aleksandr Tonkov, Alex Lupino and team-mate Jordi Tixier; the latter maintaining second spot in the MX2 standings.

While the MX2 class followed the formbook, MX1 was a little different as works Suzuki and Pirelli rider Clement Desalle celebrated his second triumph of the campaign with a resolute double run. The Belgian classified ahead of team-mate Kevin Strijbos; his countryman posting second and fourth positions. Like other Pirelli representatives in the category he used Scorpion MX MidSoft 32F front and Scorpion MX MidSoft 32 rear with dimensions of 120/90-19 to offer the best chance of traction on the stony terrain that hardly any grip.

MX1 points leader Antonio Cairoli could only finish fifth overall, just beaten by team-mate Ken De Dycker and unable to find a decent feeling on the track across the weekend. In the first race he stalled his bike and lost ground, recovering to take fourth, while in the second moto he crashed in the opening phases trying to pass Jeremy Van Horebeek and again had to fight for positions to take seventh. Despite the events of the Grand Prix of Czech Republic, Cairoli can still count on an advantage of ninety points over Desalle and can toast a seventh title come the next round of the series at Bastogne for the Grand Prix of Belgium on August 18th.

At Loket the Scorpion MX also shone in the sixth fixture in the European EMX250 Championship where a fifth victory was obtained by series leader Valentin Guillod.

PIRELLI ANNOUNCE MAJOR SPONSORSHIP OF AMCA BRITISH MASTERS MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP- INCLUDING PRIZES TO THE RICKY CARMICHAEL UNIVERSITY!

Pirelli takes its 58 World MX title winning tyres to the popular AMCA Wulfsport British Masters Motocross Championship, becoming a major sponsor of the series. The agreement will see Pirelli running competitions to give free tyres as prizes and three lucky riders a dream trip to the Ricky Carmichael University!

Pirelli has offered up a large number of their market leading Scorpion MX tyres as prizes for riders in the two main classes - which will now be known as Pirelli MX1 and Pirelli MX2. To support racers using Pirelli, the best performing riders will be eligible for these free tyres to keep down the cost of racing at this important grassroots series. 

 

The Pirelli rider with the best results from these two classes and the exciting Youth Mini Masters division will be picked to spend time at the unique Ricky Carmichael University. The AMCA Wulfsport British Masters Championship has a long and proud history acting as a breeding ground for talented motocross riders. PIRELLI AT THE 2013 DAKAR RALLY WITH TEAM HRC HONDA

The Milan tyre manufacturer will participate in the 35th edition of the most famous and most difficult raid in the world, fitting the Honda CRF450 Rally bikes ridden by Helder Rodrigues, Javier Pizzolito and Johnny Campbell with Scorpion Rally tyres

Pirelli will participate in the 2013 Dakar rally as technical partner to Team HRC, fitting the Honda CRF450 Rally bikes ridden by the three riders Helder Rodrigues, Javier Pizzolito and JohnnyCampbell with Scorpion Rally tyres.

This year, the prestigious and now legendary Dakar raid will start on 5 January from Lima (Peru) and will end on 20 January in Santiago (Chile) after completing a route containing 14 legs and spanning Chile, Peru and Argentina. For the bikes, this means a grand total of 8,423 kilometres, 4,277 over normal roads to reach special trial tracks or the bivouacs at the end of each leg and 4,146 kilometres on special timed trials which will determine the competition standings.

For the Dakar rally, Pirelli is making 2 front and rear versions of the Scorpion Rally tyres available to Team HRC. The rear size of 140/80-18 was selected as the best rear rally tyre by Honda, and the front size of 90/90-21, which is absolutely unrivalled in terms of performance on hard terrain. So Team HRC and its riders, with the assistance of on-site Pirelli technicians, will be able to choose the best solution depending on what type of leg the riders are racing.

During the tests conducted in the Autumn in Morocco and California, Pirelli was able to confirm and even strengthen the rear specifications and, thanks to the valuable feedback from the riders and the team, the company with the long "P" was able to turn its attention immediately to the front tyre, improving performance in record time. During the tests, Pirelli worked to improve the tyre on sand whilst maintaining the excellent hard terrain performance which has always defined it. For this purpose, the engineers from the Milanese manufacturer worked mostly on the tread pattern, changing the layout of the knobs, where needed, in order to guarantee better line holding and better floating on sand.

Scorpion Rally is the Pirelli product which is dedicated to raids and has been developed over decades of participating in various off-road competitions on all types of terrain, from soft sand to hard rocks. The success of the Scorpion PRO in the enduro classes, the multiple world titles won by the Scorpion MX, and the introduction of the Scorpion XC in cross country competitions have made Pirelli a household name across the world. It took several years to develop the Scorpion Rally tyres but, in the end, taking advantage of vast know-how and the most demanding testing environments, Pirelli engineers have introduced innovative solutions for off-road competitions and, once again, Scorpion Rally tyres are ready to surge ahead through the courses of these legendary competitions.

MX REVIEW- PIRELLI CONTINUE OFF-ROAD DOMINATION WITH DOUBLE WORLD AND BRITISH TITLES PLUS WESTON BEACH RACE VICTORY

Pirelli took its World MX Championship tally to an incredible 58 titles as it won both MX1 and MX2 titles, whilst repeating the 'double' in the British series.

The dominant Italian marque also recently won the notoriously difficult Weston Beach Race to make 2012 a gold medal winning year.Earlier, KTM factory riders Antonio Cairoli and Jeffrey Herlings powered to MX1 and MX2 FIM World MX Championships ahead of schedule at the penultimate round to give Pirelli their 57th and 58th World Titles.In a talent filled British Championship, HM Plant KTM UK pilots Kevin Strijbos and Elliott Banks Browne repeated the feat to make it a KTM-Pirelli double-double. In the Weston Beach Race, Herlings took on the dunes to take victory in front of 65,000 fans who braved the elements in this long standing endurance event. Ken De Dycker made it two Pirelli runners on the podium with a fine third place ‘on the beach’.The legendary Pirelli Scorpion MX tyres again took on and excelled in deep mud, energy sapping sand, loamy dirt and hard pack conditions around the World’s circuits to make this another year to remember for the Italian tyre giant.

Pirelli Go Big With The Big Air Jam Freestyle MX Series!

The Pirelli supported Big Air Jam Freestyle Moto-X Championship promises to be an evening to remember with stunts, BMX, entertainment, music, a fairground and of course some seriously ‘Big Air’!

Held at Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli on the evening of Wednesday 6th June, the Big Air Jam has a line-up of extreme sports stars each looking to put on the best show at this always popular event. Previously held at Margam Park and Silverstone, the competition will make its debut at Parc y Scarlets Llanelli guided by organisers MT3.


The radical competition will feature some of the biggest names in Freestyle MX including Chris Birch – X Fighters pilot and current British Champion, Jamie Squibb - former Big Air Jam Champion, John Pearson - first rider in the UK to pull the back flip on a motocross bike; Danny Veale, Stuart Macey, Ben Robinson and Jon Ritchie. Each rider will have different disciplines to impress the crowd with including a two minute trick comp, best trick and best ‘whip’ as they throw the bikes sideways in the air as far as possible.


As well as the Freestyle competitions the event will run Big Stunt Wars featuring some of the best stunt action to be had on mini bikes, trials bikes, and BMX. Participating in the Stunt Wars will be Kye Forte - former BMX World Champion, Gary Jenkins - Welsh Trials Champion and Mark Thomas - mini-bike stunt rider, all of which will be hoping to break World Records on the evening.
